I. Background
In 2004, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) first introduced the concept of ESG investing, advocating for the consideration of environmental, social, and governance factors in investment decisions. The UN Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI) was launched in 2006, playing a pivotal role in shaping and defining the ESG concept. In the same year, Goldman Sachs released an ESG research report, integrating the concepts of "environment," "social," and "governance," marking the formal formation of the ESG concept.
The "ESG Awards for Excellence" is scheduled to be held concurrently with the Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum and Exhibition (MIECF) in 2025. The aim of this award is to recognize publicly listed companies that have demonstrated excellence in environmental, social, and governance practices, to promote corporate sustainability, enhance the brand influence of companies in the ESG field, and to foster exchange and cooperation among enterprises.
II. Event Introduction
The "ESG Awards for Excellence" will cover listed companies in Mainland China and Hong Kong, regardless of their size. Through a series of rigorous evaluation criteria, including future industries, green hotels, green energy, social responsibility and care, life and health, green finance, biodiversity, net-zero carbon economy, circular economy, and brand influence, the award will select outstanding companies in these areas. The evaluation process will involve a comprehensive research, interviews, review, and analysis conducted by a panel of experts from industry, academia, and research institutions to ensure the fairness and authority of the selection. It is expected that through a series of activities, not only can we recognize companies that have made outstanding contributions in the ESG field but also inspire more companies to join the ranks of sustainable development and contribute to achieving China's dual carbon goals. Companies that participate in this evaluation will have the opportunity to obtain a wealth of benefits such as brand empowerment, ecosystem building, and value-added services, expanding their influence in the sustainability field and achieving a win-win outcome for all parties.
